Students are scheduled for clinical practicum at participating clinical education centers. Clinical experience rotations for Practicum III include ultrasound imaging of the abdomen, pelvis, gravid uterus, superficial structures, and vascular system. During this practicum, students will be assigned competencies and objectives to complete.

This course covers the high risk pregnancies, including multiple gestations, and the associated complications. Complications including polyhydramnios, oligohydramnios, IUGR, immune and nonimmune hydrops, Rh isoimmunization, diabetes, maternal hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia will be discussed. Fetal anomalies and syndromes are discussed. Ultrasound’s role in the diagnosis of these problems will be explained. This course also introduces the student to the different types of maternal infections as well as the invasive and non-invasive procedures that may require ultrasound. Lectures are correlated with lab activities.

Anatomy, physiology, pathology, pathophysiology and the sonographic appearance of the normal and abnormal thyroid, prostate, penis, non cardiac chest, and testicle are explored. The course will address ultrasound applications for evaluating the neck, thyroid, prostate, penis, non cardiac chest and scrotum . Scanning protocol will be taught and lectures correlated with lab activities.
